I have a sister that is a make-up artist and a brother-in-law who works for Paramount Studios. In my work in medicine I have had many clients who are celebrities.

Going to be brutally honest with you...it is usually WHO you know or WHO you are related to more than anything else.

Talent will take you places but you'll find you must plow your own path to get to where you want to be. Never underestimate ANY contact you build. Network like a mad woman...go above and beyond...and look for new opportunities.

Most important: Never burn your bridges.

I have a sister-in-law that was an actress (2 emmys) was in "Towering Inferno" (probably before your time) but because she was abrasive and egotistical no body will ever hire her for anything again.

You may find yourself going from one internship to another BUT use those opportunites to show you are outstanding and remarkable. Never bad-mouth anyone. Get those phone numbers...keep in contact with people because you never know WHO is going to notice your hard work.

Join the guild. If you have time do some "stand-in" work. You never know who you will meet waiting around to be in the background of some scene.

My BFF did that for a while and she ended up as an extra in one of the Batman movies...and that led to another job...and then another...and now she is a personal assistant to some biggie that I am not allowed to disclose.

Discretion is something that is worth more than any other asset you can put in your tool box. Use it wisely.
